Live Coturnix Quail Birds
Some people enjoy hatching their own birds, while others prefer to start with live quail that are already growing and developing. Both are great options, and we try to offer birds throughout the year based on our hatch schedules.
Here at Cumberland Quail & Farm, our Coturnix quail are raised right here on the South Cumberland Plateau. These birds are known for their fast growth, reliable egg production, and easy care compared to many other poultry species.
Starting with live birds can be one of the easiest ways to begin raising quail.
Birds Raised Here on the Farm
All of our quail are raised right here at Cumberland Quail & Farm on the South Cumberland Plateau. We focus on healthy birds, proper nutrition, and clean living conditions so customers receive strong, active birds that are ready to thrive in their new home.
Whether you’re starting your first small covey or expanding an existing flock, we want you to feel confident about the birds you’re bringing home.
Pickup Instructions
Most live birds are picked up directly from the farm, and pickup times are coordinated after reservations are placed.
From time to time, we may also offer pickup at local farmers markets when we’re attending. If that option is available, you’ll see it listed when reserving birds.
This helps ensure birds are transferred safely and keeps the process easy for everyone.
Important Notes
All birds are checked before pickup to make sure they look healthy and active.
I do my best when sexing birds, but it isn’t always exact, especially with certain color lines.
Once birds leave the farm, their care becomes the buyer’s responsibility, so I’m not able to offer refunds or replacements after pickup.
A care sheet is included with every order to help you get started.
Bird availability changes throughout the season and birds are offered first-come, first-served once they are ready.
Please bring a suitable box or transport container for pickup so the birds can travel safely to their new home.
Why Start With Live Quail
Many customers choose live birds because it allows them to skip the incubation stage and begin raising their flock right away.
Benefits include:
• Birds already growing and developing
• Faster path to egg production
• No incubator required
• Easier for first-time quail keepers
Coturnix quail mature quickly and can begin laying eggs in as little as 6–8 weeks under proper conditions.
